Ways you can fundraise

Some of our very best supporters have also been our youngest! We’re always absolutely delighted when schools and youth groups fundraise for Baby Bank Network Bristol and would love to hear from your school or group too!

Here’s some inspiration to get you started, but we would love to hear your ideas too!

  • Ditch the uniform for the day and ask people to make a donation. You could get creative with your theme – for example dressing up as superheroes, dressing up in the same colour or even wearing your pyjamas!
  • Get baking and hold a cake sale after school. You could even hold a competition for the best-decorated cake.
  • Share the love by holding a pre-loved sale. Toys, books, clothing – you’ll be doing your bit to help the planet and you’ll raise money for families in Bristol at the same time. Any leftover items that are on our Wish List could be donated to us to pass on to local families that need them.
  • Organise a toiletries donation drive for us. We always need to buy new items for families such as nappies, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes as well as things like new bottle teats. If every family at your school donated just one item it would make a huge difference! You can also buy toiletries via our Common Good Wishlist and they are delivered straight to our warehouse!

  • Enter a team to run the Great Bristol Run in support of Baby Bank Network Bristol on Sunday 19 May 2024 or sign-up to one of the many other challenge events around the UK and raise funds for Baby Bank Network Bristol – running, cycling, swimming, walking or whatever you like!
  • Organise your own fundraising event. Pick a tried and tested favourite like a cake sale, raffle or dress up / down day or push the boat out and hold a quiz or karaoke night or auction of promises. Whatever you choose, coming together to fundraise is a great way to get to know your colleagues, try new activities and develop your team building skills. Contact us to let us know what you’re planning so we can support you, and download some fundraising guidance here.
  • Raise funds through sales of products or services. Donating a percentage of your sales of a specific product or service can be a great way to raise funds our work while demonstrating to your customers or clients that you care about families across Bristol experiencing poverty and crisis. We have partnered with Work for Good who are well placed to support businesses to establish this sort of partnership and the legal requirements that are involved. Do get in touch with us to discuss your ideas and plans.
  • We’re here to support and offer fundraising advice. If you are running an event in the community or planning to hold a raffle please get in touch as there are some fundraising rules and licensing regulations that you need to be aware of. Baby Bank Network Bristol cannot be held liable for accidents, injuries, loss or damages as a result of your event.

Gifts in Kind are priceless! Here’s how you can support Baby Bank Network Bristol with products or service.

  • Organise a donation drive or event to gather essntial toiletries for new mums and babies. You could use your office or another local venue such as a community space or a pub. You can find a list of our most urgently needed items such as nappies, wet wipes and toothbrushes here.
  • Purchase items from our Amazon Gift List or CommonGood. Perhaps your company will even provide match funding or contribution – for example donating £1 for every item collected, or committing to ‘Buy One Get One Free’ by buying an extra item for every one donated by staff?
  • Organise a donation event for pre-loved items on our wishlist – this is regularly updated depending on stock at the warehouse and Sparks Bristol.
  • Host a permanent toiletries donation point at your place of business. We can provide a donation bin and when you deliver the donations to our warehouse this makes a perfect opportunity for you to see where the action happens – giving you an insight into the impact you’ve made and also makes a good PR and photo opportunity.
  • Does your business have products or services you could donate to Baby Bank Network? Perhaps you have surplus baby equipment, clothing or toiletries you could donate, or are you a delivery company that could help with transporting donations, an advertising agency that could donate ad space to raise awareness of our small charity or a restaurant that could donate a voucher for a fundraising raffle? The possibilities are endless so please contact us if you have an idea of how you could support us in this way!

Baby Bank Network Bristol was built on – and still relies on – volunteer power and donating your time is a great way for your business to support us. Here are some options and please do get in touch with us to discuss further.

  • Volunteering at our warehouse in Fishponds, BS16*. Activities here will vary, but the main tasks are sorting, checking and organising donations, and packing orders ready to go out to local families in need. Expect to do a wide variety of tasks from sorting clothes, safety checking cots and making sure that there are no missing pieces in a jigsaw puzzle!
  • Pro Bono support or ongoing volunteering. Does your organisation have skills or experience that you could offer to Baby Bank Network Bristol on a pro bono basis, either as part of a one off project or on an ongoing basis? We are a small staff team, supported by a large team of volunteers, so all and any offers of help are very much appreciated. Whether it’s marketing insight, social media technical support, innovation expertise or any other skill than a small charity might benefit from – we’d love to hear from you!

*We are a very small charity with limited resources and staff so we need your help to cover the costs of hosting you at the warehouse or at Sparks Bristol. We kindly ask for a financial contribution of £40 per head for up to 6 people, which helps us to support vulnerable families in the local area and enables us to provide a team member to support you and help make sure you have a successful, fun and satisfying experience.

Taking on a challenge or organising an event are great ways to raise funds for Baby Bank Network Bristol and support families in your community. From taking on a physical challenge like running a 5k, 10k or marathon to organising an event like a street party, jumble sale or quiz night with friends or neighbours – you will make a huge difference and have some fun while doing so! Here are a few ideas our supporters have done in the past

  • Having a baby? Hold a baby shower with a difference, where friends give a gift from our Wish List to be donated to us for local families experiencing poverty or crisis.
  • A cake sale is a classic – and for good reason!
  • Turn your birthday, wedding, retirement or other special occasion into an opportunity to support families in your community. In lieu of gifts, ask your guests to either make a financial donation to Baby Bank Network Bristol, or buy items from our Common Good wishlist (these are delivered directly to our warehouse and distributed to families that need them).

Payroll Giving (sometimes known as Give as You Earn) is an easy and tax-efficient way of making regular donations to your favourite charities straight from your gross pay. By donating to Baby Bank Network Bristol through Payroll Giving there is no income tax liability on your donation and you will pay less tax.

The tax relief you get depends on the rate of tax you pay. For example, a £10.00 donation will only cost you £8.00 if you’re a basic rate taxpayer (less if you pay the higher tax rate or are an additional rate taxpayer). That means you can consider increasing your donation because you are paying less tax.

Talk to your employer today about Payroll Giving, set-up a regular donation and share with your colleagues!

February is #payrollgivingmonth so it’s a great time to talk to your employer or share with colleagues about Payroll Giving. To find out more about how to set-up Payroll Giving visit www.payrollgivingmonth.com

Running a raffle can be a great way to raise funds for charity.  However, there are some rules and regulations around running raffles/lotteries in aid of charities.  Further information can be found on the Gambling Commission website.  Please take a look at this before you start planning activities, and make sure that what you are planning is within the law.

If you are planning to run an ‘incidental non-commercial lottery’ at an event such as a raffle or tombola (where the lottery is not the main reason for the event, and the proceeds are going to charity), you do not need a licence.  However, there are still rules you must follow which are available on the Gambling Commission website.

There are also options to run online raffles  for example www.raffall.com which is free to use, and proceeds can be donated to charity.

If you have any queries please contact us on fundraising@babybanknetwork.com
