Christmas is a time for giving and so, inspired by the words of a famous Christmas song, we are launching our ’12 Days of Christmas’ campaign to highlight the smaller items we always need.
We are encouraging people to collect a range of items as outlined in our daily #babybankxmas posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram between now and Christmas Eve, and donate them to us this winter. These items can be dropped off at KudaCan in Bishopston, Bristol, or at a special donations event at our new Fishponds home in Bristol from 9am-1pm on Saturday 21st January 2017 (more details on our events page). Alternatively, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org to find a suitable time to drop items off at our Fishponds unit.
The items, which include nappies, toothbrushes and baby toys, will then form part of our referral packages for families in need – mothers escaping domestic violence, homeless families or struggling to afford the baby essentials they need.
Volunteer Laura Williams, who is overseeing the social media campaign, said: “We continue to be overwhelmed with the support the people of Bristol give us – welcoming hundreds of donations each time we run a donations event. Now that we have a new more permanent home, we are in a position to take more items and help more babies in need – and the need is not diminishing.
“The items in this #babybankxmas campaign are things we get through very quickly and are often short of – so by donating these, people will be making a difference straight away. Huge thanks to everyone who has supported us this year; we are 100% volunteer-run and we couldn’t do what we do without you!”
Please note that due to the amazing generosity of people at our donations event and the limited space we have at our unit, we are currently only accepting items on our wishlist and those featured in our #babybankxmas campaign. If you’d like to hold onto any other items for our next big donations event, please do – alternatively, some people are choosing to sell them and donate the money to us, which we are ever so grateful for. 🙂
