What a great month it has been for Baby Bank Network! Not only have we moved into our new hive but it was also a fantastic honour win two awards at this year’s ‘Voscurs’.

Voscur are a Bristol organisation that support and help develop the local voluntary and community sector. They have provided us with key advice and support throughout our growth. Each year Voscur hold Social Impact Awards across seven categories – AKA ‘The Voscurs’. Baby Bank Network were delighted to win awards in the two categories for which we received nominations.

The first nomination was for Volunteer Team of the Year. This award recognised the fantastic work done by our team which is solely volunteer run. All driven out of a desire to help local babies and families.

Referrals coordinator Becky Kay has been involved in the project from the start and attended the award ceremony to collect the award.

“It was a real boost to the Baby Bank volunteers to be awarded Volunteer Team of the Year at the Voscurs. There is an enormous amount of hard work involved in getting baby items to the families who need them most. We pack up urgent referrals at the drop of a hat, bake hundreds of cakes to raise much-needed funds, and utilise social media to request items urgently needed. As Baby Bank volunteers we are all connected by our dedication to the cause and whatever the challenge, we always rise to it. Without our brilliant volunteer team, Baby Bank simply would not be able to continue its very important work. Well done Team!”.

The second award went to one of our Founders, Becky Gilbert for Trustee of the Year. Becky has played a pivotal role in Baby Bank Network’s success since creating the project with another founder, after discovering they had a shared vision to help families at a time of need whilst also promoting a sustainable living society. She spent her maternity leave setting up this charity and continues to devote a substantial amount of time, on top of her paid job and family life with two young children. The organisation has thrived because of her passion, energy, skill, hard work and determination.

“I am thrilled to have won Trustee of the Year at The Voscurs 2016. It’s been a very exciting past 18 months. It has been a lot of hard work, but wonderful to watch Baby Bank grow from an idea into a successful and important local charity. It is wonderful to have all of our efforts recognised, especially by a local organisation from whom we have received a lot of support ever since we began. We are all looking forward to what comes next for Baby Bank.”
