Baby Bank Network opens charity shop in Sparks Bristol

Sparks Bristol

Here at Baby Bank Network Bristol we are incredibly excited to be part of Sparks Bristol – a new sustainability, creativity and education hub opening in the centre of Bristol on Saturday 13th May.

Based in the old M&S building in Broadmead, Sparks Bristol will be an innovative hub for people to explore what a fairer, greener and more creative future looks like.

Project managed by Global Goals Centre and Artspace Lifespace and working with local partners including Invisible Circus, schools and community groups, the building is being utilised on a ‘meanwhile use’ basis until the site is redeveloped. Sparks Bristol will be open until at least December 2023, and is a unique world first pilot project contributing to Bristol’s city-wide improvement initiatives.

The aim is to showcase a successful project combining sustainable retail, promotion of re-use, and space for artists and education that will hopefully be recreated across the UK, helping to make use of empty buildings and regenerating high streets.

Inside Sparks Bristol – Where local meets global

Based on the Sustainable Development Goals, everything inside the Sparks hub is focused on helping local people to learn about and take simple, cost efficient actions on climate, equality and wellbeing. There will be an education space available for schools, training and talks, affordable spaces for local creatives to work, rehearse and exhibit and information about how to tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions.

Sparks Bristol will feature nine departments covering; food, re-use, travel, energy, nature, gifts, imagination, discovery and fashion where Baby Bank Network Bristol will have our very own charity shop!

Fashion Retail Re-imagined

Coordinated by the creators of the UK’s Sustainable Fashion Week, the alternative fashion department will focus on preloved and reworked clothes featuring: clothes swaps; preloved and vintage fashion stalls; pop-ups; creative skills space and a clothing repair cafe.

Becky setting up the shop

As part of this, at Baby Bank Network Bristol we are busy setting-up our first retail shop which will sell pre-loved maternity wear and pre-loved children’s clothes, shoes, fancy dress, toys and books for ages 0-5 years.

Re-use and re-distribution of pre-loved items for babies and children up to 5 years is the essence of our core work, and each year we re-distribute thousands of donated items to families in Bristol who are experiencing poverty or crisis.

The shop is a new operating model for our growing charity, and an exciting opportunity to develop our existing sustainability work with other like-minded groups, building a very special hub in the heart of Bristol.

Profits from the Baby Bank Network Bristol shop will go towards enabling us to continue our core work supporting families in Bristol.

Fashion department retail area opening times from Saturday 13 May:

  • Wednesday to Saturday 11am – 6pm
  • Sunday 11am – 5pm
